Catalogue Note

Following his 1959 series on the Tasmanian Aboriginal ethnocide, David Boyd commenced an extended sequence of paintings on more general issues of law and justice, 'The Trial'.  This image of the judge in the river is from early in the series, before the artist's departure on a scholarship to Rome.
