This work is a half-size, near-exact replica of an 1816 view of Sydney Town, from an album of watercolours relating to the East India Company.  It was probably produced from antiguarian motives early in the 20th century.  The original is now well-known, having featured on the cover of Tim McCormick's First Views of Australia 1788 - 1825: a history of early Sydney (David Ell Press, Chippendale, 1987)

Condition

Work is good condition. Framed and mounted under glass. Repaired tear top to bottom right.
