  • length over handles 16 1/2in. (42cm) length of ladle 14 1/8in. (35.8cm)
circular with fluted rim above chased band of merrymaking putti dancing and playing musical instruments amongst grapes, leaves and drapery swags, the body etched with script monogram JCW on one side and "1862, May 4th 1887" on the other, the handles formed as long-bearded Silenus heads flanked by grapevines and tendrils, raised on a wavy pedestal foot, the bowl of the conforming ladle etched with grapes, leaves and matching monogram, handle formed as grapevines wrapped with leaves and tendrils and terminating in a seated figure of a fully-bellied Bacchus raising a glass, marked on underside of bowl and ladle
