An advertisement in the 1838 Lexington city directory lists William Hardman as "surgeon dentist" located at 12 North Upper Street in Jordan's Row. He later advertised in the 1 January 1840 edition of the Observer ad Reporter that he was currently "manufacturing every description of JEWELRY and SILVERWARE of the best style". By this time Dr. Hardman had relocated to Asa Blanchard's former premises at the corner of Mill and Short. It is unclear exactly how long Hardman occupied this location, but a May 1843 notice in the Lexington Intelligencer announced that George W. Stewart had relocated his shop to the "establishment recently occupied by Dr. W. Hardman."
