- height of ewer 15 1/4in. (38.6cm) length of tray over handles 30 1/4in. (77cm)
comprising: Pitcher, pair of Goblets, Teapot, Creamer, covered Sugar Bowl and two-handled Tray, each of large baluster form chased with flowers and foliage, the loop handles formed as grapevines, finials modeled as morning glories, the ewer with presentation inscription, the remainder engraved C.W. Wentz, the silver-plated tray shaped oval with conforming grapevine rim, the surface engraved with classical foliage, ewer marked on base for N.A. Freeman, New York, tray by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, the rest apparently unmarked

both goblets slightly wobble, one remaired at base of bowl otherwise good condtion

The inscription on the ewer reads: "Presented to Charlew W. Wentz late Resident Engineer on the Eastern Sub-division of the New York State Canal by the Civil Engineers under his charge as a token of their respect and esteem for him both as an Engineer and Gentleman 1855."
