dated 1823; the broad borders are decorated with perched birds, pinwheels and trellised vines and blossoms, at center a red-roofed house with large leafy trees beneath a yellow banner inscribed A Family Record.

Catalogue Note
The watercolor records the names, birth and dates of various members of the John S. Smith and Else Mackey family. The Smiths were married February 14, 1796, the first of their nine children, William Smith was born December 20, 1797. Their daughter, Mary Smith, married John Snover on October 12, 1826. Their first child, Else Margaret Snover was born November 18, 1827.
