Description

  • John James Audubon (after)
  • Eider Duck (Plate 405)
  • sheet 670 by 1000 mm 26 3/8 by 39 3/8 in
Chromolithograph, by J. Bien, c. 1860, on wove paper, with wide margins, in good conditoin apart from light- and mat stain, two central horizontal rolling creases, the sheet edges with short tears and shallow losses, framed

Condition

The print is in good condition as catalogued. Exposure to light and an acidic mat has darkened the paper tone overall, and it is darkest in the margins, with additional occasional surface soiling. The two central horizontal rolling creases extend the width of the print and Mat stain continues on the verso as well. Tears at the sheet edges number c. 8, with the largest at left measuring 1 3/4 inches and extending just barely into the image.
