Hand-colored engraving with etching and aquatint, by R. Havell, 1834, on wove paper with the J. Whatman 1836 watermark, together with CAROLINA PARROT OR PARRAKEET and PILEATED WOODPECKER, two lithographs with hand-coloring, by J.T. Bowen, from the 1st Royal Octavo Edition published c. 1840, on wove paper, with wide margins, in good condition except the first with a repaired tear at the left sheet edge, the margins with pale mat stain, time stain at the sheet edges, the disbound edge with stitch holes, framed (3 prints) (the first print examined out of the frame)
Condition
Virginia Rail: The print is in good condition as catalogued. There is a 2 1/2 inch repaired tear at the upper left sheet edge extending slightly diagonally into the margin. Expsoure to an acidic mat has darkened the paper tone in the margins and surface soiling and pale discioloraiton are visible at the sheet edges. The disbound edge at top with stitch holes.
The two octavo prints were not examined out of the frame but appear to have pale light-stain in the visible area.
