Two hand-colored lithographs with touches of gum arabic, after designs by Arthur F. Tait, 1863, on heavy wove paper, with full margins, generally in good condition except the first with damp stain in the upper right sheet corner, the second with two repaired tears in the margins, each with pale discoloration, framed (2 prints)

Condition

Laying Off: In good condition as catalogued. There are two visibly repaired tears in the upper and right margins extending c. 2 inches, but not into the image, with a shorter tear at the upper left sheet edge. Pale light-stain appears in a window around the image, darkest at the mat opening, with surface soiling in the outer margins and at the sheet edges. There is an inconspicuous flattened semi-circular crease in the image at lower right, visible mainly on the recto. Sheet 599 by 795 mm margins c. 2 inches at left, right and top A Good Time Coming: The print is in good condition as catalogued. There is extensive damp stain in the upper right sheet corner, visible in the upper margin at right and the length of the right margin and on the verso, but not affecting the upper right corner of the image. Mottled discoloration in the remaining margins comprises surface soiling, mat and time stain and there is scattered foxing on the verso. Brown paper tape extends 13 1/2 inches along the upper sheet edge recto. Sheet 558 by 775 mm margins c. 1 1/2-1 3/4 inches at left top and right.
