Description

  • height 14 3/4in. (37.2cm)
on scroll-flanked dolphin head supports, the lower body with cast band of amatory classical figures playing instruments and with Cupid's bow, the handles formed as recurving palm trees rising from applied sprays of cacti to spreading tree tops linked by matching etched foliage, applied bamboo rim, frosted interior, marked on base and numbered 14752-3462, and stamped 21 pints

Catalogue Note

The cactus theme was used by designer John T. Curran and examples were shown at the 1893 Columbian Exposition (see John Loring, Magnificent Tiffany Silver, p. 194-5).   Palm trees were featured on an "Elephant" cigar box finished on 6 August 1900, sold Sotheby's, New York, 22 October 1988, lot 31.
