figurant un personnage cariatide féminin au corps longiligne, dont la fluidité des lignes est accentuée par le léger mouvement du corps asymétrique. Très belle opposition entre la souplesse de la pose et la fermeté des lignes anguleuses dessinant les bras et le visage - la face profondément incurvée, les traits strictement perpendiculaires, le menton en pointe. Epaisse patine croûteuse, brune.

Catalogue Note
Les statues Lobi dont la dimension excède 45 cm - comme ici - sont, selon Gottschalk (1999 : 116), attachées aux clans, aux rites d'initiation et à la vie sociale. La plupart d'entre elles sont interprétées par Bognolo (2007) comme des statues d'ancêtres. La forme de la jarre, dont la rondeur évoque selon l'auteur (2007 : 131) le ventre gravide de la femme, "permet d'associer la notion de fécondité à celle de la puissance de l'ancêtre représenté" (idem).
