bateba, puissamment rythmée par le mouvement des bras écartés et du buste penché vers l'avant et par l'asymétrie de la pose et les surfaces épannelées. Belle opposition entre les jambes étroites et l'imposante carrure du buste, conduisant à la tête aux traits ébauchés, disparaissant sous l'épaisse patine croûteuse, avec restes de substances sacrificielles (duvet).
Condition
End of the legs broken, missing. Otherwise good condition, consistent with wear and use within the culture.

Catalogue Note
Selon Piet Meyer (1981 : 88), les statues Lobi aux bras largement écartés se rattachent à la catégorie des ti puo, ou "personnes dangereuses", aux bras levés contre les sorciers. Pour Bognolo (2007 : 133), le sens de ce geste - exécuté par les femmes lors des funérailles - transposé à la statue support d'un esprit d'"ancêtre inachevé", permet au prêtre qui l'a prescrite de contrer l'intention de cet ancêtre d'apporter la mort dans la maisonnée.
A la puissance du geste répond ici celle de la sculpture, accentuée par l'épaisse patine sacrificielle attestant son usage prolongé et répété.
