Ci-wara, d'une grande élégance, le schéma horizontal animé par un très beau jeu de courbes. De manière classique, le corps et la tête ont été sculptés séparément puis assemblés sous le bandeau métallique ornant le cou. Grande sensibilité de l'exécution, la surface entièrement décorée de motifs géométriques finement gravés. Superbe patine partiellement huileuse, brune et brun rouge. Il a conservé la calotte en vannerie qui le maintenait sur la tête du porteur.

Condition

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. The end of the tail (originally forming a circle) missing, broken and carved into crescent shape, under black surface; proper right ear vertically broken and possibly restored. Catalogue Note

Les cimiers surmontés d'une représentation dite d'antilope – le plus souvent un animal hybride, associant ici les traits de l'orcytérope aux longues cornes de l'antilope hippotrague – sont portés par les membres de la société d'initiation Ci-wara. Ici, le schéma horizontal de l'antilope permet d'identifier sa provenance à la région de Djitoumou, au sud de Bamako (LaGamma, 2002 : 109).
