- Très belle statuette féminine, Tshokwe ou Lwena
- haut. 14,3 cm
- 5 1/2 in
fermement campée sur des jambes semi-fléchies, les épaules rejetées en arrière et le dos cambré mettant en valeur la poitrine, les mains posées de part et d'autre du nombril saillant. A la vigueur de la pose répond la nervosité du visage, la face anguleuse, émaciée, dominée par l'ample coiffure à calotte gaufrée et ailes latérales. La très grande finesse des modelés est magnifiée par l'ornementation - têtes de clous en cuivre et collier de perles de verre. Le sommet de la tête est percé d'un orifice. Superbe patine nuancée, brun rouge, brillante.

Catalogue Note
L'importance du personnage féminin représenté ici est signifiée par la coiffure cheffale, à calotte gaufrée et ailes latérales rabattues vers l'avant. Selon toute vraisemblance, cette statuette féminine faisait partie des objets des cultes thérapeutiques de type hamba, liés à la fécondité. L'orifice percé au sommet de la tête permettait d'y fixer une charge ou un bouquet de plumes, à l'instar de la statuette collectée par Albert Maesen en 1953, aujourd'hui conservée au Musée Royal de Tervuren (Tervuren, 1995 : 123).
La très belle vigueur plastique et la nervosité des détails, combinées à la très belle patine d'usage confèrent à cette miniature une superbe monumentalité.
