otobo, représentant l'esprit de l'eau, mi-homme, mi-hippopotame, la mâchoire ouverte sur les dents massives de l'animal. La stylisation géométrique accentue la puissance des traits : face plane d'où sont projetés en haut relief les yeux en demi-cercle, la barre transversale des arcades sourcilières, le nez aux narines dilatées, et un oiseau stylisé posé sur le front ample. Epaisse patine d'usage, croûteuse.

Catalogue Note
Ce masque-cimier, appartenant à la société initiatique Sakapu, apparaissait pour honorer les esprits de l'eau, owu. Selon Anderson (in R.M.N., 1997 : 133) le port vertical des masques-cimiers permettait d'imiter ces esprits, flottant à la surface de l'eau.
cf. lot n° 134 de ce même catalogue pour un autre type de masque ijo célébrant owu. Ces deux formes de masques - rares - sont présentes dans les collections du British Museum, chacun collecté par Maraget Plass et reproduit dans Paulme (1956, Pl. XVI).
