Lu bo bie, le visage zoomorphe marqué par le rythme puissant de ses volumes projetés dans l'espace : face convexe pourvue de deux rangées d'yeux tubulaires, front en visière auquel répond la longue mâchoire articulée projetée à l'oblique, s'ouvrant sur des dents taillées en pointe, la langue apparente. L'extrémité des yeux a conservé la résine dans laquelle étaient fixées des graines d'abrus aujourd'hui disparues. Patine sombre, avec traces de kaolin sur la mâchoire.
Condition
Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Losses to the interior, due to insects, stabilised. Few superficial losses along the edges of the jaw.

Catalogue Note
cf. Harley (1941 : pl.IV e) pour un masque comparable collecté avant 1941, conservé au Peabody Museum of American Archeology, Harvard University. Selon Harley, ce masque nommé Lu bo bie représente, dans le poro du Liberia, l'esprit ge de l'éléphant. Ce masque était gardé dans la maison sacrée et utilisé lorsque quelqu'un enfreignait les lois de la communauté ou refusait de payer une dette. "Le problème devait être résolu, ou l'éléphant détruisait sa maison".
