Description

  • diameter: 4cm., 1 1/2 in.
circular enamelled over weave and wavy engine-turning, the hinged cover inset with a faceted pink topaz and with laurel border, the lid interior set with a mirror, with workmaster's initials, 56 and 88 standards, the compact enclosing a gold mounted powder puff, apparently unmarked, held in a Fabergé fitted case

Condition

Very light surface scratches to the enamel behind the hinge but in overall very good condition. The box also in good condition.

In an age when appearances were orchestrated with infinite care accessories were selected to complement the outfit. This included a variety of fashionable accoutrements such as this powder box and cane handles (lots 36, 37).
