Catalogue Note

The shape and decoration of this vesta case is based upon the upper section of Louis XVI period etui à cire. Michael Perchin used similarly elegant Louis XVI-style chasing on a patch box that was given by Emperor Nicholas II and his consort, Empress Alexandra Fedorovna, to the Duchess of York (later Queen Mary) in 1894 (British Royal Collection, RCIN 9133, see Caroline de Guitaut, Fabergé in the Royal Collection, London, 2003, cat no. 147, p. 131).
