Description

  • 57.5cm. high, 173cm. wide, 53 cm. deep; 5ft. 8in., 1ft. 8¾in.,
the rectangular moulded top with three shield-shaped iron escutcheons above a panel centred by a scrolled boss flanked by chimera amongst scrolls flanked by a mermaid amongst scrolls above a gadrooned apron and later scrolled leaf carved feet, the inside of the top with a printed paper label relating the `Miraculous Recovery made by a little girl from Piacenza visiting the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Caravaggio, 1894'

Condition

Old marks, chips, scratches, cracks and restorations to the top and generally, commensurate with age. There is an unusual locking mechanism with the escutcheons inset in the top. There is a patch of approximately 25cm to the top. There is also some shrinkage to the panels in the front, but these are not too noticeable and can be left. The top is more faded than the rest but this is normal with age and usage. Internal restorations as well. The rear left moulding is possibly a later replacement.
