Description

  • arch 45cm. high, 71cm. wide; 1ft. 5¾in., 2ft. 4in.
in the form of an arch carved with tracery below foliate carved spandrels to each side and with traces of polychrome decoration, with a carved oak pew-end fragment, 15th century with foliate motifs and moulded edge, possibly West Country (2)

Condition

Larger fragment with attractive worn polychrome (very rare to see this paint) and typical old chipping and fragmenting to details. The upper section of this fragment loose in the side post but not detached. The reverse with a lot of old fragmenting commensurate with age and as a result of old worm. The pew end with attractive patina. Slight fragmenting on the long straight rim and some white paint on this site. The reverse with some old fragmenting and indications of former insect infestation.
