Condition

Very charming. Condition condition good considering age and use with lovley patina and colour. Typical wear throughout including old chipping and indents. The hinged cover with usual separation and traces of former ironwork that was attached to the underside showing on the top surface at the centre of the front top board and with residual black marks. The attractively carved front frieze with old fragmenting and loss concealed by the lock hasp. The left side with less polish and old splitting at the top. The rear of this lot with partial old losses on apron moulding. The reverse of the cover with later baton to secure separation and covered in old newspaper. The ends with later applied moulded rails. The reverse of the front with later replaced lock, key lacking. The drawer fittings are loose and with old fragmented losses at the ends of the moulding that is at the base of the drawer section. This desk box is one of the better examples likely to been seen and there is an attractive ambiance of age about this piece.
