Condition

This piece is much more impressive in reality. The colour is slightly darker and less orange and more natural and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. Attractive patina. The quality of the carving is exceptional. The door hinges have possibly been changed as there is evidence of previous fixings. The back panel behind the crucifix has dropped and just needs adjusting but there are some old cracks which have been filled in the past and old minor scratches. There is a vertical crack in both the right and left sides of the lower section which can easily be filled. There are also some smaller minor cracks in the doors which can easily be filled. There is an old restored break in the square piece of marble inset in the top of the lower section and a new break and a small piece missing which can easily be restored. There is evidence also of something previously bordering the marble-possibly material. There is also a horizontal crack across the top of the lower section which can easily be filled. Please note that the wood is walnut and not mahogany as stated in the catalogue. In otherwise good condition. A rare piece and recommended.
