Condition
Very decorative and in fair condition. The warped cover with some patching, traces of worm and fragmenting prominent on the rim. The hinges with detachable bolts. The veneered and inlaid frieze with some losses and patching. The moulding with some typical separations. The carved capitals with some chipping and wear. Splits to the carved panels. The surrounding bandings with some separations and losses. The plinth with wear and partial loss of moulding. This is an impressive piece of bold proportions.

Catalogue Note
This cassone is good example of the fusion of late Gothic and Renassiance design. There are fine Gothic blind tracery panels combined with flamboyant classical inlay and well carved capitals demonstrating a knowledge of the 'new' by the craftsman or men responsible.
