Description
- Total height: 166cm. high, 77cm. wide, 41cm. deep; 5ft. 5¼in., 2ft. 6¼in., 1ft. 4¼in.
the upper section with two frieze drawers flanking a boss surmounted by a crown flanked by cherubs, the fall-front opening to reveal a fitted interior within an architectural niche flanked by three short drawers on either side, above one long drawer panelled to simulate two drawers, flanked by a further short drawer, the lower section with one long and two short frieze drawers above a pair of panelled drawers enclosing a shelf with an iron handle on the side, the whole carved with cherubs and standing male figures on corbels, on a platform base
Condition
Old marks, chips and scratches commensurate with age. Some minor losses to carved figures. The panel on the upper section right side, probably a later replacement. Evidence of old worm which appears no longer active. The front of the fall-front has suffered and has several cracks, patches as visible from photograph. There is also a loss to part of the mount on the escutcheon. The internal lock plate has been replaced and the inside is rather dry looking. There has been strengthening behind the doors on the lower section and the drawers generally on the piece have been relined. The top on the lower section is a later replacement. In otherwise good, conserved condition.
