Catalogue Note

"Griffiths travelled disguised as a Greek in order to collect 'accurate and unbiased' information. He began his journey in 1785 and describes mainly Constantinople, Chios, Mitylene and the coast of Asia Minor. He includes much discussion of a political nature and is both anti-Turk and anti-French" (Blackmer).
