Catalogue Note

The illustrations in this pictorial catalogue of ships derive from the work of the two Antoine Roux (father, 1765-1835, and son, 1799-1872) undertaken throughout the first four decades of the nineteenth century. Thus they chart the development of the Greek navy in the build-up towards and during the War of Independence. A century later the pictures were deftly copied by Vice-Admiral Antonios Kriezis and it is his representations that form the basis of this collection.
