Catalogue Note

"Gamba was the brother of Byron's mistress Theresa Guiccioli. He acted as Byron's secretary and was with him in Greece until the end. Hobhouse assisted him with the publication of this biography, and after its appearance Gamba returned to Greece, where he was killed at the battle of Methana in 1826" (Atabey).
