Catalogue Note
a good copy of "an important work" (Blackmer). Although he was not present at the siege of the Acropolis by the Venetians in 1687, during which an explosion partially destroyed the Parthenon, Fanelli provides a detailed factual account based on authentic documents, and a history of Athens. The Blackmer copy was lacking one of the folding views of the Acropolis (present here); in some copies the plate of two lions is folding, here it is two single-page plates. According to Contominas (also lacking a folding plate) there are two issues of the work, though without giving priority; in this case the errata comprises 64 corrections (as in the Contominas copy).
