first edition, folio (513 x 336mm.), text in English and French, plain aquatint vignette on title, 30 hand-coloured aquatint plates after dodwell and pomardi, mounted on thick card and with printed captions on verso, nineteenth-century half calf, gilt edges, captions on versos cropped, binding rebacked retaining original gilt spine (some slight loss)

the issue with the plates in special format, mounted on card.

"The work was issued in six parts from 1819 to 1821... These plates were intended to illustrate Dodwell's Tour through Greece, 1819 [see lot 54] but the cost of production proved prohibitive, so 30 plates were chosed to appear separately" (Blackmer).
