Catalogue Note
Deshayes was sent to the Levant by Louis XIII as ambassador. This account, which contains much original material, "provides... a clear account of the structure of the Ottoman Empire, as well as the most complete description yet recorded of the Seraglio" (Blackmer). It also includes accounts of Mitylene, Rhodes and Cyprus (p.325-331, with a full page illustration of Famagusta on p.328).
