Catalogue Note

About 500 copies of this work were printed. Chandler was commissioned by the Society of Dilettanti to explore Asia Minor during 1764-66, accompanied by Nicholas Revett and William Pars. This work is based on his journals of that expedition. Two other works connected with these travels appeared: Ionian Antiquities, 1769-1797 (see lot 184) and Travels in Greece, 1776 (see lot 29).
