Catalogue Note
Robert Walpole (1781-1856) travelled in Greece some time between 1803 and 1808. "His plan to publish his own journals and notes together with those of likeminded people resulted in this important work which contains information which appeared nowhere else. The contributors include J.B.S. Morritt, Sibthorp, [J.D.] Carlyle and Philip Hunt on Mt. Athos, Aberdeen, John Hawkins and others" (Blackmer). Besides Greece and Turkey, the work includes articles relating to Cyprus and Egypt.
