Catalogue Note

"The first edition in French was published in London in 1816, under a different title, together with Canova's letter to Lord Elgin. These are the original memoirs Visconti wrote for Elgin after his visit to London in 1814 and includes Visconti's list of Elgin's Greek inscriptions" (Blackmer). Visconti was the director of the Museo Pio-Clementinum and later of the Musée Napoléon.
