Catalogue Note

Aldenhoven, who probably arrived in Greece at about the same time as King Otto and the Bavarian troops, prepared the large map of the Greek Kingdom for Otto which was published in 1838 as well as the topographical plan of Athens which was published by J.A. Sommer in his appendix to Stademann's panorama (see lot 196). The Itineraire is a compilation of information from many sources checked against Aldenhoven's own experiences.
