Catalogue Note
Lieutenant Spratt of the Mediterranean Hydrographical Survey and Professor Forbes of the Geological Survey travelled with the Rev. E.T. Daniell in HMS Beacon to Lycia intending to continue the work of Sir Charles Fellows and Captain Beaufort before them (see lot 11). The result was this, the first comprehensive archaeological and geological survey and description of the area.
