Catalogue Note

Charles Perry (1698-1780), a physician, travelled extensively between 1739 and 1742 in France, Italy and the East. He travelled up the Nile to Aswan, providing the earliest description of the Temple of Isis at Behbit el-Hagar, and the frescoes  in the tombs of the Beni Hasan necropolis. Most of the plates in this work illustrate Egyptian antiquities.
