Catalogue Note

a fine copy. Maurer, an academic, was appointed to the Greek Council of Regency during the minority of King Otto, and is described as that Council's ablest, most energetic and liberal-minded member. It is thanks to his efforts that Greece acquired a revised penal code and regular tribunals. This work is both useful for its description of the state of Greece before Otto ascended the throne, and for the work done by the Council of Regency during Maurer's membership.

The third volume is an appendix containing documents entitled Interessante Neugriechische Urkunden. It has two title pages, at the foot of which can be seen the remains of some printed words (possibly instructions regarding the binding which would normally have been completely cropped at the binding stage).
