Catalogue Note

A passionate philhellene, Hughes travelled in the Levant as tutor to Richard Townley Parker. Much of the present work is devoted to Epirus, where Hughes and Parker spent two months in the company of the architect Charles Cockerell. Most of the plates in the work are after drawings by the latter.
