Description

  • 37cm. high.
6-cm engraved gilt dial with touch pieces calibrated I-XII, 13-24 and for the quarters, foliate engraved concentric alarm disc and steel hands, reverse with strike recording dial with touch pieces, iron posted movement with double fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain balance with hog's bristle, countwheel striking on a bell with connection to the seperate mechanism in the base turning the figure of a knight surmounting the foliate pierced cuppola with gallery flanked by turned finials, central section with engraved sides showing strapwork with fruits, scrolls and flowers, flanked by elaborate corner pilasters with Corinthian capitals and scrolling acanthus leaves, ogee moulded base with similar engraving, moulded ebonized plinth raised on bun feet 

Condition

dials in good condition, all fire gilded, possibly redone but very well and hard to tell if so, movement in working order, balance and 'scape wheel restored (well done), alarm restored, movement in the base for the automaton reconstructed, part of the return spring for the striking lacking, later finial knight, case in good condition with a well made replaced ebony base, together with a winder
