A fine and impressive pair of Russian gilt-bronze mounted faux malachite painted porcelain vases in Louis XVI style, 19th century

Description

  • each 61cm. high.
each amphora-shaped body painted in various shades of green to imitate malachite, mounted to the sides with seated Nereids holding floral and grape garlands held together by a knotted ribbon, their interlaced scrolling fish tails centred by a vine and grape finial, surmounted by a high stylized foliate cast neck, the everted rim with egg-and-dart motif, raised on high circular acanthus, palmette and laurel cast foot, above stepped square concave sided base 

Condition

Both vases in overall good condition with the inevitable minor dents, marks and scratches. The gilding partly refreshed. One vase with five short deeper scratches to the opening.
