Description

  • 246.5cm. high incl. finial.
30.5-cm square brass dial with wheatear border, engraved silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals signed John Davis London, foliate pierced hands and ringed winding holes, date aperture and subsidiary seconds, cherub and crown spandrels, added arch with dolphin spandrels flanking a similarly signed signature plaque, anchor movement with ringed knopped pillars and outer countwheel striking on a bell, passing strike for the half hours, associated walnut case with bell top surmounted by two urn finials, foliate pierced frets above the break arch glazed door with brass capped half pillars, canted trunk, shaped door with Europe lenticle, shaped base with flower inlay, raised on bracket feet

Condition

dial a little tarnished, arch fixed with slided pins so can be removed at will, quality hands, movement in good condition and able to function, replaced seatboard, case of circa 1750 (probably The Hague) in original dirty condition, lacking center finial, the hood rather stained with a few shrinking cracks, trunk a little pale, front panel of base with shrinking cracks and further shrinking cracks to the sides of the base, together with two weights, a pendulum, a key, a winder and two finials
