Catalogue Note
These plates were the property of Baron Pieter Melvill van Carnbee (1743-1826). He was appointed Commander in the Order of William by the Dutch King Willem I in 1815. A membership in this order was awarded to him for the succes he had in the important battle at Cape St. Vincent in the Algarve, Portugal. He had been very succesfull in serving his country during numerous battles, especially in the navy.
The plates were probably given to Baron Melvill van Carnbee for the occasion of the decision made by King Louis Napoleon to appoint him to be Commander in the Order of the Union.
