Catalogue Note
The inscription reads:
Nicolette Adriana Burman. Gotfried Becker Amsterdam 24 April 1794 / Selma Boldsen Hans Christian Bruun KjΓΈbenhavn 29 Maj 1894
This cake basket was made by Martinus Logerath (1733-1814) and was probably a gift on the occasion of the marriage of Gotfried Becker and Nicolette Adriane Burman in 1794. After they married in Amsterdam, Nicolette's birthtown, they went back to Copenhagen where Gotfried originally came from. The basket was then passed on to their daughter, Colette Maria Becker, who married Carl Frederik Bruun in Copenhagen in 1823. Then it was passed on to their son of whom we do not know the name. His son, Hans Christian Bruun, married Selma Boldsen in 1894, then received the basket and had it inscribed to commemorate the marriages.
