Description

  • 1708gr., candlesticks 27.8cm. high.
on circular foot with pierced rim, rising to a tapering circular and fluted stems with a central section engraved with a frieze of flower heads, above a rim of guirlandes, detachable nozzels decorated with stiff leaves and a beaded border, fully marked below; a matching Dutch silver jug, late 18th century, on circular, pierced foot, the body of fluted baluster form, applied with guirlandes and medallions below a waisted neck, with angular handle, and cone finial, apparently unmarked

Condition

Marks of the candlesticks struck twice, all with small scratches and dents of use, both stems slightly unstable and slightly leaning.

The jug is almost similar to a jug manufactured by Dirk-Evert Grave, Amsterdam, 1777. See Sotheby's Amsterdam, 22 May 1996, lot 80.
