Description

carved with voluminous mantle, the Child with His arms raised, on an integrally shaped base, the back hollowed, old woodworm

Condition

Numerous layers of polychromy with losses to paint and gesso. The back of this finely carved figure is hollow but there is evidence of old worm damage in particular to the back and to the proper right section behind the Child's head. The small finger of the Child's right hand has broken off and the right arm re-attached at the elbow; wear to toes of His right foot.
