Literature

I. de Meuter and M. Vanwelden, Tapisseries d'Audenarde du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle, Exhibition Catalogue, Oudenaarde, 1999, pp.203 illustrates two similar Oudenaarde landscape tapestries with the same motifs of the river and central distant buildings, and distinctly woven woodland on a hillocky ground, with foreground flowers and the same border.

Condition

This tapestry has some old repairs and reweaving in areas, and repaired joins. See for example the light horizontal strip in the sky and the highlights of the birds and animals and the water. Also repair visible to areas of the border, the foreground and the sky sections visible across the top edge. Area of rewoven repair top left , half way down the far left edge at the base of the trunk of the trees and extending to the left border. Otherwise good overall condition. Striking and distinctive tapestry.
