A pair of Empire style giltwood and gesso console tables 19th century

in the manner of James Del Vecchio Snr. of Dublin, the breakfront marble tops on winged leopard's head monopodiae supports

Fair general condition, the later gilding has been overpainted and is dirty and worn in places. Some repairs to the wings. Most of the detail is gesso and not carved and is cracked in places.. A very decorative lot of interesting architectural form which would greatly benefit from cleaning and re-gilding. Table 1: Surface scratches to the marble. There are small rim chips. Gesso cracked and chipped in places. Wing cracked with white gesso showing. Losses to rosettes on side returns. Table 2: Surface scratches to the marble. There are small rim chips. The left monogenic toe has an old repair and the claw is recently detached and not with it. The jambs on the rear supports are chipped and there are some losses to the plaster. It is interesting to note similarities with the work of Italian born James Del Vecchio Snr. of Dublin who, along with his son, was a Dublin based print seller, plasterer, carver, gilder and furniture maker and was listed in Dublin directories until 1848. The exaggerated monopodia supports, use of gilt-composition and Italian influences recall his work.
