An impressive Regency style bronze ceiling light circa 1965

by Peter Bicknell, with eight branches applied with gilt-metal decoration issuing from the central reservoir

The three grand ceiling lights that are offered in consecutive lots formed part of a scheme designed for Downing College, Cambridge in the mid-1960's by Howell, Killick, Partridge and Amis. The offered lots with their strong neo-classical motifs were designed by Peter Bicknell whose inspiration came from the lights designed in 1832 by Sir Charles Barry for The Travellers Club, Pall Mall, London.
