Description

  • 103cm. high, 59cm. wide, 21cm. deep; 3ft 4½in., 5ft. 2½, 8¼in.
with Spanish Brocatelle marble, the inlaid blind-fluted frieze decorated with paterae and foliate carved jambs

Provenance

Removed from Downhill Castle, County Derry prior to its demolition in 1950 and installed in the present owner's house shortly thereafter. For chimneypieces from the same property see Important English Furniture, these rooms, 20th November 2007, lots 114 and 115.

Condition

Please note this chimney piece was photographed in situ before being dismantled and it will now require re-assembly and restoration. This lot comprised of eight pieces. The frieze has a recent break and is missing one "flute" of sienna marble. There are many further losses including to the fruit on the jambs.
