the triple arched back, padded arms and seat covered in floral tapestry, the six vase shaped legs joined by twin X-shaped stretchers
Condition
Colour slightly lighter overall and more attractive than in the catalogue illustration. Joints sound and sturdy. Front left leg and some sections of the stretcher also replaced and general restorations to the legs and stretcher. In overall good restored condition.
The associated early 18th century floral tapestry cover is in overall very good condition. There are minor areas at colour changes, where little splits are visible, as part of the weaving process, and have opened up. The colours are warmer and not so strident. Reds are darker, as are the greens (which are not so blue in hue) and the yellow is warmer. The tapestry has been very professionally upholstered. There is some later reweaving to the front section very lower edge near the beading, which is visible as the black and mustard mix sections. There is some wear to the dark brown ground, commensurate with the colour. The back has been covered with complimentary canary coloured twill woven material.
